Cleaning your Hair Care Kits

Its 2011 and what better way to start the New Year than by cleaning out the dust of the past year and making sure every item in your hair care kit is in tip top shape.

Combs and brushes

Check your brushes. Bristles tend to wear out and can scratch your scalp. If you find that bristles are missing or not rounded, it’s time to replace it. The same also applies for combs with missing teeth or that have sharp edges that can damage individual hairs.

As far as cleaning is concerned, clean out the lint and dust in brushes by soaking it in some soapy water and then running a toothpick to pick out hairs. Soak combs and rinse with hot water.

Blow Dryers

Find the lint trap of your blow dryer, remove it and rinse under hot water. You can use a vacuum cleaner hose to pull out lint and stray hairs from the back of the dryer before you replace the lint trap.

Curling irons, flat irons

By end of year, you will find a certain amount of leftover hair product on your iron. Wipe it clean using a soft cloth saturated with alcohol to remove the product build-up.

Left-over shampoo, conditioner, and styling products

Make sure to tightly seal all products that you aren’t currently using. If you haven’t used a product for over three months and the bottle is almost empty, it is best discarded.
